Poonam Puri

A tenured professor of business law, an experienced corporate director and practising corporate lawyer, Poonam Puri is one of Canada’s most respected leaders in corporate governance, corporate law and securities law.

Poonam advises and serves on public and private company boards as well as Crown corporation boards in a broad range of industries including real estate, financial services, infrastructure, transportation, engineering, and mining. Poonam has recognized expertise in strategic planning, financial oversight, M&A and complex governance matters. She currently serves as a director of the Canada Infrastructure Bank and CAPREIT (TSX: CAR-UN-T). She also serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Poonam is a former director of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Arizona Mining (TSX: AZ), Cole Engineering, and Women’s College Hospital. Poonam also recently completed her term as a Commissioner of the Ontario Securities Commission.

Appointed to Osgoode Hall Law School over 24 years ago, and a Corporate Lawyer and Affiliated Scholar with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, Poonam was awarded the 2021 Law Society Medal and has been recognized as one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women and one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 leaders. She has also been recognized by Canadian Lawyer Magazine as one of Canada’s 25 Most Influential Lawyers. Poonam is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law (LL.B., 1995, Silver Medalist) and Harvard Law School (LL.M., 1997).
