Joelle practices primarily in the areas of contractual and transactional disputes,corporate governance, business torts, regulatory matters and Aboriginal rights and title.Joelle has appeared as counsel in the BC Supreme Court(including success in tworecenttrials),the BC Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal. Joelle also hassignificant experience before administrative bodies including acting as counsel for theLaw Society of British Columbia and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization ofCanada, and appearing as counsel before the BC Securities Commission and theNational Energy Board. Joelle regularly acts for clients through alternative disputeresolution processes such as mediation and arbitration, and is often consulted forstrategic, results driven advice prior to or atthe outset of a dispute arising, or as part ofongoing negotiations.
In her Indigenous law practice, Joelle assists clients in the areas of Aboriginal rights andtitle, governance, Indian reserve issues, impact-benefit agreement interpretation andimplementation, regulatory matters and the development of strategic approaches to theparticipation of First Nations in consultation and negotiation with the Crown andindustry. Joelle’s experience in Indigenous law includes working with Indigenous legalorders, oral traditional evidence and traditional ecological knowledge.
